I thought the Cash for Clunkers cost us $3 billion, but apparently it was $12 Billion.
In comparison, the Tariff-offsetting Farmers aid has already surpassed $18 billion this year. Interesting read

That’s cheap compared to what the US continues to pay for the F-35 program.
https://time.com/5575608/lockheed-martin-f-35-jet-cost/
2456 fighter jets for $1.196 trillion... 25 of those F-35 fighters cost more than Cash For Clunkers... even if Cash For Clunkers cost $12 billion.
Best way for the USA to save money is to scrutinize military spending.

Yeah, I don’t think we should cut the F-35 (now anyways, it probably should have been cut a decade ago, but that money is already wasted), but there needs to me cost awareness in the military. It’s almost never subjected to financial constraints, and even when the sequester was in place, the military mostly responded by deferring maintenance and other tactics that kick costs into the future instead of figuring out how to do things more efficiently.

I agree it’s too late to completely cut the F35 now. But they can still reduce the number they buy in the future by a bit and that would basically pay for a ‘cars for clunkers’
And I’m sure there are plenty of other areas savings could be found.
